May 31, 2025Struggling with low views and subscribers? Adjust these YouTube Studio settings to boost your video performance.
In YouTube Studio, select a video and scroll to Category. This choice can make or break your video’s reach:
-
Use the same category for all your channel’s videos.
-
YouTube defaults to “People & Blogs”—safe for most content.
-
For gaming or music, pick those specific categories.
-
Avoid vague categories like Education, which can limit views.
-
Tip: Find a top creator in your niche, copy their most popular video’s link, and check its category on mattw.io/youtube-metadata. For example, a high-performing “YouTube growth” video used “Howto & Style,” not “People & Blogs.”
Go to Settings > Channel > Advanced Settings:
-
Check Do not display potentially inappropriate words. This prevents YouTube’s auto-transcripts from misinterpreting words (e.g., “duck” as a curse), which could flag your video as unsuitable for kids.
-
Enable Allow viewers to clip my content under “Clips” to let others share snippets, boosting views.
In Upload Defaults, pre-set tags and settings to save time. Set Visibility to “Unlisted” (not “Public”) to:
-
Refine your title, thumbnail, and video quality before publishing.
-
Allow YouTube a few hours to analyze your video for better recommendations.
In Advanced Settings, uncheck Automatic Chapters. They’re often inaccurate and can spoil entertainment content or confuse educational viewers. Use manual chapters for precision.
Under Community > Default Settings, set Moderation Level to “Basic” to filter inappropriate comments, which could otherwise flag your video as unsuitable. Check Held for Review in Comments to approve wrongly flagged, harmless comments.
For any video, scroll to Shorts Remix and enable Allow video and audio remixing for more exposure. Avoid marking your content as kid-targeted unless necessary, as it reduces views.
In Settings > Channel > Advanced Settings, uncheck Third-party training. It’s often enabled by default but offers no benefit and risks data leaks.
Before uploading, review these settings to ensure your video reaches its full potential. Small changes can lead to big results.
